Description

A rare woodcut map of Milan, presented as a bird's-eye view, with the buildings shown in perspective. This plan was one of the biggest in Belleforest's 'La Cosmographie universelle de tout le monde', so was bound as a fold-out plate. This work was a French translation of Sebastian Munster's 'Cosmography', although it took its maps and prospects from other sources, including Ortelius and Braun & Hogenberg, as this plan. As there was only one edition, Belleforest's maps are considerably rarer than Munster's.
