Description

Map of the Great Lakes, marking 'Chicagou' and depicting imaginary islands. The 'Atlas Portatif pour servir à l'intelligence de l'Histoire Philosophique' was an important work of the French enlightenment, with contributors including the Abbé Raynal and Denis Diderot. Denouncing slavery and colonisation, it was a popular and influential work, despite drawing condemnation from both church and state.
