Description

A rare map of the Americas from a separate-issue set of the Four Continents, probably engraved by Cornelius Danckerts the elder (whose signature is on the 'Asia') for Tavernier. This is an example of the first states, before the addition of 'Neuf Amsterdam' 'Pleymouth', 'Accadie' and 'S. Augustino' in the second state of 1640. California is a peninsula, before the 'island' myth; Raleigh's 'Parime Lac' appears in South America; and Greenland and Antarctica are shown as insets.

Condition:

A very fine example
