Description

A fine example of this famous map of Cyprus, with Famagusta, Nicosia and Limassol marked in red with gold spots, published in Blaeu's monumental 11-volume 'Atlas Major'. The large title cartouche depicts a famous story from Greek mythology; Aphrodite, seated in a shell being drawn across the sea to Cyprus by a pair of swans, is pricked with an arrow by her son Cupid, which causes her to fall in love with Adonis. who unfortunately is killed by a boar.

Condition:

A good example.
