Description

A map of the mythical lost continent of Atlantis, as envisioned by naturalist Jean Baptiste Bory de Saint-Vincent (1778-1846), drawn for his ''Essais sur Les Isles Fortunées et l'Antique Atlantide ou Précis de l'Histoire générale de l'Archipel des Canaries'', first published in 1803. It shows the eastern coastline of Atlantis, incorporating the islands of West Africa with modern and classical names: the Azores and Canaries (Herspérides), and the Cape Verde Islands (pays de Gorgones). Bory published a number of works on natural history and his scientific expeditions.
