Description

A rare prospect of Krakow, looking north across the Vistula, with a 14-point key of buildings. In the foreground are two men, illustrating the dress of wealthy Poles. According to the text box the view was drawn by Egidius van der Rye (c.1555-1605) and sourced for the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum' by Joris Hoefnagel. As it first appeared appeared in the sixth and last volume, issued 45 years after the first edition, comparatively few examples were printed. In the same volume was a two sheet prospect of Krakow and its satellite towns.
