Description

Early 'map-view' of Mantua, published in the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum', the first series of printed town plans. The major buildings shown in profile, with little consideration for perspective. Mantova was the birth town of Pietro Giovanni Guarneri, also known as Pietro da Mantua or Peter Guarnerius of Mantua, he was a violin maker of the Guarneri family who also worked as a professional musician
