Description
A map of Tartary after Cantelli da Vignola, published in De Rossi's atlas, the 'Mercurio Geografico'.
Japan appears on the right, with only a narrow strait separating it from a mainland peninsula to the north, not 'Ezo', which is a separate island to the north-east. The large title cartouche shows a Tartar family.
