Description

A map of the Americas, also showing Captain Cook's routes across the Pacific to Hawaii, New Zealand and the Bering Straits during the 1770s. It is decorated with a large title cartouche shows an allegorical figure representing America holding up an arrow, surrounded by a mountain lion, alligator and a snake. Despite Cook's failure to find a North West Passage on his Third Voyage, a conjectural route is marked. Cassini's atlas, the 'Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale', was not a commercial success so his maps are quite uncommon.
