Description

A detailed panorama of London from the Adelphi, looking south towards Southwark but, with the sweep of the river, also showing St Paul's Cathedral & the Tower on the left, and Westminster Abbey on the right. On the south side of the river can be seen the warehouses and factories, including 'Fowler's Iron Works' and 'College Wharf Saw Mills' and a shot tower. In the background are the ridges of Clapham Common and Shooter's Hill. On the river are the barges of the City Companies, in procession to mark Lord Mayor's Day. This was a sister publication to a 16-metre 'Panorama of the Thames, from London to Richmond', which had a central strip representing the river and elevations of the buildings on both banks. John Heaviside Clark (1770-1863) was a Scot whose sketches made directly after the battle earned him the nickname 'Waterloo Clark'.
