Description

Three of the 24 gore sheets making up Coronelli's 42" (107cm) terrestrial globe. It shows the known parts of Australia appoximately 75 years before Cook mapped New South Wales, with dates given for the Europan discovery of each area. The interior is filled with decorative vignettes, including an illustration of an elephant! The globe's elaborate dedication cartouche (to Francesco Morosini, Doge of Venice 1688-94) ) is spread across two plates. The decorations include a medallion portrait of Coronelli in his monk's habits. These gores were published in Coronelli's 'Libro dei Globi' (Book of Globes),
