Description

The profile of French first-rate warship (one capable of carrying at least 100 guns), shown under sail, gun ports open, with men in the rigging. It is likely that Coronelli depicted a French ship because he enjoyed the patronage of Louis XIV, the Sun King. Down the sides are 36 ensigns of European states. Upper right, opposite the title cartouche is a key explaining the engraved colour code which allowed the colourist to paint the ensigns correctly.

Condition:

A little creasing at centre fold.
