Description

A two-sheet sea chart of the English Channel, showing the English coast from the Severn Estuary to the Scilly Isles and east to Dover, the Channel Islands and the continental coast from Ushant to Dunkirk. It was published in the 'Atlas maritimus & commercialis: or, a General View of the World, so far as Relates to Trade & Navigation', which contained only charts of the greatest commercial significance to the English. Edmond Halley, the Astronomer Royal, wrote a prefatory note discussing the use of the charts; it is believed that Daniel Defoe was also a contributor.
