Description

Detailed plan of London, extending to Kensingon Palace and World's End in the west, Islington in the north, West Ham, the EFast and West India Docks and Greenwich in the east and the Oval and Battersea Bridge in the south. Darton has chosen to highlight the planned improvements in yellow: these include the environs of Tavistock Square & Bryanston Square and the docks at Shadwell. This early edition has Nash's Regent Street and Piccadillly Circus shown superimposed on the original layout of Swallow Street. It is remarkable that despite the rapid development of the metropolis there are still 'Osier Beds', for growing willow for basket making, behind Chelsea Hospital.
