De Fer’s large-format map of Asia

A rare map of Asia, engraved by Hendrick van Loon for De Fer's folio atlas, 'L'Atlas Curieux', with large and decoraive cartouches for the title and dedication. Novaya Zambla is shiown as a partial outline; the Caspian Sea is still wider than tall; and Hokkaido appears as a small, circular island, with the Asian mainland is shown hypothetically running east to west immediately to the north. The size of the map is large, even for the 'Atlas Curieux'; the bottom edge of the map has had to be folded up to fit.
