Description

Celestial chart depicting the solar system according to the theories of Tycho Brahe and Giovanni Battista Riccioli, both of whom are depicted in the decorative borders. The main diagram shows Tycho Brahe's theory that the sun revolves around the earth and the other planets revolve around the sun. The twelve zodiac's symbols are depicted in a ring around the diagram, and a large vignette depicts Apollo driving his chariot across the sky while other gods represnitng the planets are running above the clouds. From Doppelmayr's 'Atlas coelestis in quo mundus spectabilis et in eodem.'

Condition:

Split in lower centre fold repaired.
