An uncommon two-sheet plan of 17th century Rome

A detailed map of Rome with the buildings shown in relief, with extensive keys and decorative cartouches drawn by Jan Goeree. Giovanni Battista Falda da Valdugga (1648-78) was an architect who drew and engraved views of Rome for the de Rossi family. His map of Rome was first published by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi in 1667, with a 12-sheet version following in 1676. This Dutch edition was issued in 'Thesaurus Antiquitatum Romanarum', a 12-volume study of ancient Rome, edited by Johann Georg Graevius and first published by Frans Halma and Pieter van der Aa in 1694. This example is a later state with the Dutch title replacing van der Aa's inscription.
