A vue-d’optique of the arrival of General Howe in New York City

An optical print of the British army under General William Howe entering New York in September 1776, during the American Revolutionary War. The print was designed to be viewed through an optical viewer called a Zograscope, which used lenses and mirrors to give a sense of depth. Thus the title is engraved in reverse at the top of the print.
