Four theories of the Sun, Moon and Earth

Four engravings based on Athanasius Kircher's Cosmography, illustrating contemporary theories of the construction of Sun, Moon and Earth. All have titles on banners held aloft by flying cherubs; two are signed by the engraver Joachim Wichmann (1648-1703). The plates were published in ''E. G. Happelii Gröste Denkwurdigkeiten der Welt Oder so genannte Relationes Curiosae'', a compilation of current scientific thought.
