Description

The Turkish Empire, including Greece, Arabia and North Africa, with a title cartouche featuring a portrait of Sultan Mahumet, the Turkish ruler who captured Constantinople in 1453. This is the first issue of a map engraved by Jodocus Hondius for his edition of 'Gerardi Mercatoris Atlas Sive Cosmographicæ Meditationes de Fabrica Mundi et Fabricati Figura'. A fine example.
