Description
A map of the Americas engraved by Abraham Goos for Jansson's new version of the 'Atlas Minor', first published in 1628. This example comes from the first of only two French editions.
The most distinctive feature of the map is unusual depiction of the north west, with Quivera and the Strait of Anian being separated from continental America by an unnamed strait that links to Hudson's Bay. This mapping only appears on three works, all engraved by Goos (the other two being globes), and appears to be his interpretation of the semi-mythical discoveries of Juan de Fuca.
In the North Atlantic the mythical islands of Frisland, Bus and Brasil all appear.
