Description

A superbly-detailed map of Midlothian, here referred to as 'Edinburghshire', the name of the Parliamentary constituency. In the Firth of Forth is a vignette of Edinburgh Castle. James Knox surveyed the county in 1812, publishing his map on four sheets in 1816. When John Thomson began his Atlas of Scotland he used Knox's survey to engrave this map. Thomson's completed atlas finally appeared in 1832.
