Description
A detailed map of the Diocese of Coutances, covering Normandy and the Channel Islands, dedicated to its bishop. A huge cartouche (containing the title, dedication, key and scale) fills the bottom left sheet.
Two engravers are credited, François de Lépine and his wife, Jacqueline Panouse; presumably one worked on the map, the other the decoration. The publisher, Jean Mariette (1660-1742), was the second son of Pierre Mariette II, specialised in prints rather than maps and so is not listed in the Dictionary of Mapmakers.
