Cipro. Cyprus, que olim (Macaria) id est Beata, Insula est in sinu Carpathÿ maris sita Veneri fuit sacra. [&] Candia. Creta Insula, hodie Cãdia, in medio põto sita est.
Rome: Antonio Lafreri?, c.1570. Two maps, 275 x 205mm & 285 x 205mm, on two sheets conjoined.

Description

Separately-printed maps of Cyprus and Crete, both orientated with north to the left, both unsigned but attributed to Lafreri by Bifolco and Ronca, on the grounds that the plates were owned by Lafreri's successors, Duchetti, Orlandi and van Schoel. The map of Cyprus still shows the Frankish city walls destroyed in 1567.

Condition:

Cyprus trimmed close to plate top and right, Crete trimmed close to plate at top.
