Description

A scarce French broadsheet map of Brussels published a matter of months before the French laid siege to the city in January 1746, as part of the War of the Austrian Succession. Orientated with north to the left, the map highlights the defences of the city, with a key of 113 plates of interest,. After three weeks the Austrian defenders surrendered to the French, who held it until the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle ended the war in 1748.
