Description
A miniature view of the city, copied from Braun & Hogenberg, showing the walls and bridges.
In the image is the two-faced head of Janus, with a snake coiled above the brow. Above the map is a Latin motto, 'Consilio et Lingua', with two lines of Latin text and a four-line verse in German underneath. Neither the figure nor the texts appear to relate to Lucerne.
Meisner's book of town plans originally appeared in 1623 with only 52 plates. In 1624-6 it was re-issued with 416, and again in 1638-42 with a new title, 'Sciographia', and 800 plates, each plate with a letter before the pagination, as this example.
