Description

A miniature view of Schwyz, with two arms protruding from clouds, one holding an urn, the other, gauntleted, holding a sword with a bible strapped to the blade. Above the map is a Latin motto, 'Ad Plures Spirat Anhelus Opes', with two lines of Latin text and a four-line verse in German underneath. Neither the figure nor the texts appear to relate to Schwyz. Meisner's book of town plans originally appeared in 1623 with only 52 plates. In 1624-6 it was re-issued with 416, and again in 1638-42 with a new title, 'Sciographia', and 800 plates, each plate with a letter before the pagination, as this example.

Condition:

A good example.
