Description

A two-sheet map of Ireland, drawn by Gerard Mercator himself and first published in his atlas in 1595. This example comes from the second state, introduced in 1636, with the hatchuring and decorations in the sea removed on both maps and the title cartouche on the southern sheet updated (the northern sheet never had a title). As this state was only used in three editions before being replaced by maps of the provinces, it is comparatively scarce.

Condition:

Old ink library pagination stamp in top margins.
