Description

Moll's large-format map of Africa, first published 1714. It is decorated with a large title cartouche featuring a native fighting a crocodile. Along the bottom are insets, 'A Prospect of the Cape of Good Hope', Cape Coast Castle, James Fort on St Helena and the Dutcvh fort at the Cape of Good Hope. Moll has also attempted to show the currents and prevailing winds on the trade routes around the Cape to the Indies. This large-format series was highly popular, and was re-issued several times by various consortia of publishers. Moll died in 1732, and his name was subsequently removed from the imprint.
