Description

A chart of Port Royal Sound, orientated with north to the right, marking Port Royal Island, Beaufort and St. Helena Island. Moll is proposing the island as a site for a fortified base for shipping, stating in the text 'Here ye Air is always cleer and agreeable to Europian constitutions'. Moll first published his 'Atlas Minor' in 1729 but, shortly after his death in 1732, Thomas Bowles and his son John reissued it with plate numbers added, as this example.
