Description
An unusual map of Cyprus, divided into nine classical kingdoms, based on the writings of Herodotus and Diodorus. The Roman roads are also marked, taken from the Peutiger Table.
Pierre Moullart-Sanson (d.1730), grandson of Nicolas and nephew of Guillaume Sanson, was the third generation of the family to become 'géographe du roy'. He bought his uncle's stock and re-published the Sanson atlas with a few additional maps, including this and a map of contemporary Cyprus, both with an outline based on Paolo Forlani's 'Isola di Cipro' of 1571.
