Description

A 16th century map of England, Wales, Scotland south of Edinburgh and the east coast of Ireland, orientated with north to the right, described by Shirley as 'substantially in advance of any others printed hitherto'. First published in 1540, it names about eighty important places (although some less important now, including the tiny Threave Castle in Galloway), with a table of names in Latin and in the vernacular. The only decorations are the flags of England and Scotland.

Condition:

A good example.
