Description

A sturdy example of Europe's first pocket atlas, containing maps reduced from Ortelius's Theatrum by Philip Galle. The First Edition of 1577 had 72 maps; in 1588 Filips Galle engraved new plates, improving the quality of the maps, adding new maps as they were introduced in the larger 'Theatrum' atlas. This edition has 109 maps, 37 more that the first edition.
