Description

A map of Morocco drawn up by Ortelius himself in 1595, with a superb strapwork title cartouche. Top left is an inset of the Congo after Filippo Pigafetta (1533-1604), who later translated the text of Ortelius's atlas for an Italian edition. First published 25 years after the first edition of the Theatrum, this map is comparatively rare.

Paper lightly toned.
