Description

An important map of Persia, first published in 1570 in Ortelius's 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum', the first modern atlas of the world. The map is drawn from Gastaldi's map of Asia Minor of 1564 and Ortelius' map of Asia published in 1567. It is decorated withg a large strapwork title cartouche and a sphinx sitting on the scale bar.
