Description
An important map, compiled by the 512 Field Survey Company of the Royal Engineers, showing the important military roads around the areas controlled by the British towards the end of World War Two. It covers Mediterranean coastline from Marsa Matruh in Egypt, east through Palestine and Syria, marking Alexandria, Cairo, Suez, Aqaba, Gaza, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Damascus, Beirut, Tripoli and Aleppo. It also depicts the start of roads to Bagdad, Palmyra and Mosul. There are thirteen inset details, mostly of cities, and keys and mileage tables.
Several parts of the map are shaded pink, indicating 'Highly Malarious Areas', including the Nile delta and along the Jordan river.
Although the map was published two years after El-Alamein ended German advances on Egypt, this map is still marked 'Restricted'.
