Description

A very scarce German derivative of Giovanni Falda's twelve-sheet plan of Rome, drawn by Johann Meyer of Zurich and engrave by Sandrart. It is presented as a bird's-eye view, with the building shown in perspective, so that the buildings can be seen clearly. Underneath are seven inset elevations of church buildjngs including the Vatican. Two extensive keys list 254 principal buildings, divided between the churches and the classical structures. The title cartouche features a portrait of Innocent XI (pope between 1676-89). A decorative vignette contains an allegorical figure of the Tiber.
