Description

The map of North America from the second edition of John Harris' 'Complete Collection of Voyages and Travels'. It contains a late example of the most famous cartographical mistake, California as an island, a myth that lasted one and a half centuries. Other cartographical errors include the Straits of Anian, Frobisher's Strait in Greenland and Lake Nicaragua, which opens into the Caribbean and almost reaches the Pacific.
