Description

A German edition of Smith's 'A Description of New England', the map that gave the region its name, showing from Cape Cod north to Penobscot Bay. It was copied from the first state of the map, without the date 1614, Smith's armorial or 'P. Travers' & 'Gerrard's Ils' in Penobscot Bay. It was engraved for the 13th part of Hulsius's 'Sammelung von sechs und Zwanzig Shiffarten', an extremely rare series in competition with De Bry's collection of voyages.
