Description

A map of the World on Mercator's Projection, centred on the Pacific. As the map concentrates on Cook's three voyages, few names are marked on land. Decorative vignettes show Cook's ship, the Endeavour, and weapons of the South Sea islanders. The map was drawn and engraved by John Rapkin for the 'The Illustrated Atlas, and Modern History of the World, Geographical Political, Commercial & Statistical', edited by Montgomery Martin, which was one of the last decorative atlases to be published.
