Description

A scarce, separate issue double hemisphere map of the world, with celestial spheres in the cusps and the Four Elements represented by a lion and elephant, eagle, salamander and a twin-spouted whale. The two spheres of the map are supported by tromp l'oeil scrolls containing tables of degrees in French and German. In the Eastern Hemisphere a cartouche decorated with cornucopiae is left empty. On the map California and Korea are depicted as islands, the Streight of Anian separates America from Asia; and, despite the date, no part of Australia is shown.

Condition:

A very fine example.
