Description

A fascinating wheel chart interpreting Ovid's ''Four Ages of Man'', with both astronomical and astrological temporal meanings, advising on living a long life. It includes the Four Seasons, Four Tempers, the Roman calendar and the Zodiac. The title begins with a Biblical quote: ''Watch the time and fly from evil''. It was published as a folding plate in 'Specula Physico-Mathematico-Historica', an encyclopedia of science by German monk Johann Zahn (1641-1707), but could be used as a volvelle (i,e, dissected and mounted on separate discs which could be rotated independently).

Condition:

Binding folds flattened.
