A rare map of America, in the style of Antonio Zatta with a scenic title cartouche, but folio-sized. It comes from a never-finished atlas by the 'Società Calcografia', a partnership of the two main Venetian publishers of the period, Zatta and Giuseppe Antonio Remondini, which probably ended with Zatta's death in 1804.
The title refers to John Meares (c.1756-1809), an English fur trader who nearly caused war with Spain in the 'Nootka Crisis'.
