An important map of Persia, published in the first edition of Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first modern atlas of the world. It is an example of the 'B' variant, denoted by changes to the letterpress on verso.
The map is drawn from Gastaldi's map of Asia Minor of 1564 and Ortelius' map of Asia published in 1567. It is decorated withg a large strapwork title cartouche and a sphinx sitting on the scale bar.
