A scarce view of the monument to Charles Allan Cathcart (1759-1788), sent to China in 1787 as the East India Company's ambassador, but dying on route.
It was drawn and etched by Daniell for ''Memoir of the Life and Public Services of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles'', written by his widow Sophia.
William Daniell (1769-1837), artist and printmaker, travelled in Asia between 1786 and 1794, making two trips to Java.
