In stock

A scarce miniature map of Canterbury, reduced from the Braun & Hogenberg plan of 1588.
The plan was published in Valegio's pocket atlas of town plans, 'Raccolta di le piu illustri et famose citta di tutto il mondo', which was issued without a standard collation. Of the 322 plans in this series, 112 are signed by Valegio, six were reissues of plates engraved by Martin Rota in 1572, and the rest were anonymous, as this plate.
This plate is more commonly seen in the 1713 'Universus terrarum orbis' by Raphael Savonarola (also known as Alphonso Lasor a Varea), set in text.
