Map of Silesia with an inset plan of Breslau held aloft by putti. In 1740 the Prussians had invaded Silesia as part of the War of the Austrian Succession, a war that included North America and India as well as Europe. This campaign, known as the First Silesian War, ended with most of Silesia being transferred to Prussia by the Treaty of Berlin in 1742.
