A scarce map of the Battle of Burkersdorf (Burkatów, Silesia) on 21st July 1762, during the Seven Years' War, published in Raspe's 'Schau Platz des gegenwaertigen Kriegs' (Plates illustrating the Current Wars).
Frederick II of Prussia was desperate to recapture the town of Schweidnitz (Swidnica), when he had previously annexed and fortified, but lost to the Austrians earlier in 1762. As he and his Russian allies advanced towards Schweidnitz news arrived of the fall of Tsar Paul III and the withdrawal of Russia from the war on the orders of Catherine II. However Frederick was able to persuade the Russian commander to stay long enough to influence the actions of the Austrians. The Prussians won, then moved on to lay siege to Schweidniz.
