A map of the areas affected by the gradual weakening of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century, covering from Greece to the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf.
The map was published as matters came to a head with the 'The Great Eastern Crisis' of 1875-8, when Western powers took advantage of uprisings in the Balkan peninsula to acquire territory at Turkey's expense.
