Description

An early town plan of Cusco, engraved by Valegio after the Braun & Hogenberg plan of 1572, and published in his pocket atlas of town plans, 'Raccolta di le piu illustri et famose Città di tutto il Mondo'. It shows the street layout and fortifications, with figures in the foreground including a noble being carrried in a palaquin. Of the 322 plans in this series, 112 are signed by Valegio, six were reissues of plates engraved by Martin Rota in 1572, and the rest were anonymous. This plate is more commonly seen in the later 1713 'Universus terrarum orbis' by Raphael Savonarola (also known as Alphonso Lasor a Varea).
